I know I've said the racings looked poor before, but jesus today is terrible, its shockingly woeful. Its the worst Sunday I can remember for ages, and Sunday is normally our good day! Its probably just unlucky its the weekend that falls between the Derby and the oaks weekends at The Curragh, still though very poor standard.
First look through the cards and I picked out a 1/3 shot (without prices at the time), I've spent about an hour or more at this stage trying to find something with a chance at a better price and I cant come up with anything. Tyrur Ted is very short in 2-45 and I'd love to take him on, hes no more than an average horse, the only thing is I cant find anything to beat him. While the same applies to The God Of Love in the 3-55 at Limerick. Thought long and hard about Buoy George in the bumper at Limerick again, but he hasnt got a change of gear, he'll just run at the same pace all day, if he makes the running I think he'll win because theres not much else in the race, but still thats not enough to back him for me.
So I'm left with my pick, Gonebeyondrecall in the 3-45 at Sligo, very short price and unoriginal selection but its the best I can come up with! When I first saw the race I was amazed at how easy it looked for him, small worry would be the trip though over 2M. Hes won over 2M4F in Aintree and then comes to Sligo to follow up, it doesnt exactly make sense but he should win bar something goes wrong really. Connections must rate Gentleman Jim highly because hes gone off some short enough prices for what hes done, he basically has no form that would make you think he could touch Gonebeyondrecall, although he did fall at the first the last day so we'll never know what would have happened there. It looks a match on paper and in the betting too, you'd have to fancy Gonebeyondrecall to have too much class for these.
Hes not everyones sort of price at 4/11, but its a hard to pick anything else today, hes also in my mind the most likely winner over the both cards so I dont mind backing him at 4/11, its a fair price on reflection of the race. I'd say the racing will take a back seat for most people today as the Leinster final is on in Croker between Dublin and Kilkenny, still disappointed with the standard of racing for a Sunday in Ireland, but come on Kilkenny! I quite enjoyed reading the papers this morning about "how Dublin will put Kilkenny in their place," do they not understand these type of things will only make Kilkenny want to make a show of Dublin even more, 4-00 in Croke Park watch the master class!
Gonebeyondrecall 3-45 Sligo, 3pts win @ 4/11 on Betfair.
